Corridor Pipeline Project
Midwest completed the construction of the Corridor Pipeline Project in August 2002 for Corridor
Pipeline Ltd., a subsidiary of Trans Mountain Pipe Line Company Ltd. The pipeline system is the largest Dilbit Pipeline of its kind in North America.
The 495 kilometre dual pipeline links the three major components of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project. The system connects the Muskeg River Mine north of Fort McMurray, to the Scotford Upgrader near Fort Saskatchewan and the pipeline terminals in Sherwood Park, Alberta.
The construction consisted of two dual pipeline systems.
The first was a 453 kilometre Dilbit Pipeline, composed of a 24-inch pipeline used to transport diluted bitumen south to the Scotford Upgrader, and a 12-inch pipeline to transport diluent north to the Mine Site.
The second was a 42 kilometre Upgrader Pipeline, composed of a 16-inch delivery pipeline from Sherwood Park transporting supplemental feedstock’s to the Scotford Upgrader and a 20-inch synthetic products pipeline from the Upgrader to refineries and terminals.
Construction on the pipeline began in July 2000 and was completed in August 2002.
Total cost of the project was approximately $600 million including; engineering, procurement and construction. The work was completed under budget, on schedule and with an industry leading safety record.
This project showcased Midwest’s abilities in constructing safe and cost effective pipelines for our Client’s and has established Midwest as a leader in the pipeline industry.
